Hey folks, things are working again on here and just in time too. If you live on the east coast and frequent New York City, you might have noticed a new radio station on the dial. Country is finally back in NYC!
NASH-FM 94.7 hit the airwaves last month and is making big moves in the country world already by holding the first-ever #NashBash, a three-day concert held at the historic Roseland Ball Room. Fans can only win tickets to the show by entering on their website. Big names like Blake Shelton, Lady Antebellum, Sara Evans and Gary Allan are set to perform, plus many more.
Congrats to Lady Antebellum’s Dave Haywood. He and his fiance, Kelli Cashiola married this past Saturday evening on a farm outside of Nashville. According to People.com, guests including bandmates Hillary Scott and Charles Kelley, were shuttled to the private location for the ceremony, dinner, and dancing.
The couple announced their engagement in December.
Congrats to the happy couple!
Are you watching this season of American Idol? Country is being represented this time around by Skylar Laine. Self-proclaimed #1 fan of Miranda Lambert, the southern beauty sang the hit tune “Hell On Heels,” by Miranda’s all-girl group the Pistol Annies. Then the contestants got to perform a song by the artist who influences them the most and of course she chose Miranda. Skylar chose “Gunpowder And Lead.” She sounded great but didn’t really impress too much…a different Miranda song might have been better. Regardless what I think, she was still voted back again.
This week she switched things up and sang a Kellie Pickler song. It’s actually one of my favorites of hers…”Didn’t You Know How Much I Loved You” from her debut album.
Girl has some pipes and was even told by one of the judges that there isn’t anyone in country music right now singing like her. Even if she doesn’t win this thing, I think she will definitely find her niche in country music and have a thriving career. Skylar also sang a great country song with fellow Idol show contestant, Colton Dixon. The two performed the duet by Kelly Clarkson and Jason Aldean.
So if you like what you see, consider checking out American Idol next week and vote…Skylar was safe tonight and will be performing again next Wednesday night.
Carrie Underwood was front and center at this year’s ACM Awards…she was not only nominated but she opened the show with her new single “Good Girl.”
On the red carpet, Carrie talked to Extra about the future with her husband Mike Fisher and how they are in no rush to start a family. “I’m good right now. As long as he’s playing [hockey] and I’m doing this, it doesn’t make sense…so no babies,” Carrie said. The couple has been married since 2010 and she’s been super busy, so motherhood isn’t something she’s thinking about right now.
She told Extra, “I have my best friend around me all the time. Everybody’s like ‘the first year is the hardest’ and I’m like, ‘that’s it? That was the hardest? Come on, you can do better than that!’ It’s great; he’s wonderful.”
In other Carrie news, besides the release of her new album on May 1, she’s been rumored to be a new judge on Simon Cowell’s show X Factor. However, Carrie has made it quite clear that she would ever turn her back on the show that made her a superstar…American Idol. In the same red carpet interview with Extra, Carrie said, “I think it’s great that Simon has the X Factor show, and I love seeing all of these shows giving nobodies a big opportunity. But I’m an Idol girl all the way. That’s the one that I love and watch. I can’t see myself being a part of any other show like that.”
I’m totally okay with Carrie waiting to have children…I would just like to see her decide on what she’s doing this summer. Is she going to tour to support this new album? I’ll bet she’ll be at the iHeartRadio concert in Las Vegas in September…but what about an arena tour or something. Maybe she’ll wait until this fall…but make some sort of announcement. I also think it’s about time she return to Idol. A J.Lo/Carrie song would be awesome! What do you think?
Sugarland front-woman, Jennifer Nettles, secretly married boyfriend Justin Miller over the weekend. She has been linked to Justin for about two years. Justin even co-starred in the duo’s hit song, “Want To.” The happy couple tied the knot in a Tennessee Smokey Mountain ceremony. The intimate wedding was attended by close friends and family, including duo partner Kristian Bush. It’s also been reported that Jennifer wore an Alexander McQueen gown for the nuptuals.
Check out the “Want To” video below.
Faith will be among the guests performing at this year’s “Christmas in Rockefeller Center” in New York City. Also performing are Justin Bieber, Michael Bublé, Carole King, Tony Bennett, Cee Lo Green, Katharine McPhee and Javier Colon.
Fresh off her CMA performance, Faith will be getting into the holiday spirit and will most likely be singing a track off her popular holiday album Joy To The World, released in 2008. Fans were excited to see her back at the CMA’s after a five year hiatus. Her new song “Come Home” can be purchased on iTunes and her new album will hit shelves in early 2012.
Tune into NBC on November 30 to see all the performances along with the 74-foot-tall, 10-ton Norway Spruce light-up with over 30,000 LED lights.
The CMA’s are in the past and with the show last week there were lots of rumors of a reuniting of Tim McGraw and Kenny Chesney out on the road together. Well rumors have been put to rest…Kenny Chesney and Tim McGraw will reunite for the musical event of 2012, the ‘Brothers of the Sun’ Tour.
‘Brothers of the Sun’ will be the first time in 10 years that Kenny and Tim have hit the road together. The reunion will kick off June 2 in Tampa, FL and will feature stadium shows on weekend dates at venues across the country, including Philadelphia’s Lincoln Financial Field, Dallas’ Cowboys Stadium, Detroit’s Ford Field, and New Jersey’s MetLife Stadium. ‘Brothers of the Sun’ will also feature special guests Grace Potter & The Nocturnals and Jake Owen.
Sounds pretty exciting, definitely something to look forward to next summer!
Leading up to tomorrow’s CMA’s, some of the biggest country singers got stars on the Music City Walk of Fame. Alan Jackson and Kix Brooks were among the recipients and Reba McEntire was on hand to share the moment with Kix.
Also, Robin Roberts’ special In The Spotlight aired tonight…she chatted with Keith Urban, Kenny Chesney, Faith Hill and Sugarland. Here’s a bit of Sugarland’s piece as they discuss the stage collapse at the Indiana State Fair.
Check back in tomorrow…I’ll be live tweeting during the show so make sure to follow @mDELONG11 for all the Country Music Award details!
Rehearsals are underway for this week’s CMA’s. The show is just two days away.
Hosts Brad Paisley and Carrie Underwood met with several Clear Channel radio people to talk about the show and lots more! Check it out below…some of it is pretty funny.
Besides Brad and Carrie…Martina McBride, The Band Perry and (my fav) Faith Hill were among the first artists rehearsing for the show on Sunday (Nov.6).
The 45th Annual CMA Awards airs live from Nashville’s Bridgestone Arena on Wednesday, November 9 at 8PM on ABC.
Eric Church is riding high with the success of his latest album Chief…in fact, the album was just certified gold for shipments exceeding 500,000 units.
Capitol labelmate Keith Urban surprised Eric with a plaque marking the occasion during a recent stop in Milwaukee on Keith’s 2011 Get Closer World Tour. They also performed one of Chief’s stand-out tracks, “Springsteen,” for the sold-out crowd.
This is such great news for a great artist. I picked up his album in the first weeks after its debut and love it. He’s one of my favorite artists right now…(the other being Miranda Lambert)…and if you’re not listening to him yet, you better go get this album today.
