Blake Shelton finally popped the question to girlfriend of five years, Miranda Lambert.  The proposal tops off an incredible year for Miranda, having just won three big awards at the ACM’s and nominated for a few at this year’s CMT Awards.  She now joins her buddy Carrie Underwood with wedding planning.

Country music was represented on late night television last night.  Luke Bryan stopped by the Tonight Show and performed his latest single “Rain Is  A Good Thing.”  He really worked it and it definitely is a great song.

Also, Keith Urban stopped by and sang for Jimmy Fallon.  He brought along Kimberly Schlapman and Karen Fairchild from Little Big Town and Sarah Buxton as his backup singers.  He rocked out to the Rolling Stone’s “Tumbling Dice” and gave a shout out to flooded Nashville.

PHOTO / VIDEO OF THE DAY: Idol Gives Back

Carrie Underwood wrapped up her week on the west coast last night with her performance of “Change” on American Idol: Idol Gives Back.  She explained in an interview with MTV, “The song talks about how the smallest thing can make a huge difference, and it really fits with tonight’s concept.”  After her performance, she announced that for scheduled dates for her extended fall Play On Tour, 36 cents (a figure taken from a lyric in the song) from every ticket sold will be donated to Save the Children’s programs.  Carrie’s performance seemed to be the only one that was appropriate for the evening.  The Black Eyed Peas shouted “Rock Your Body,” while Jeff Beck and Joss Stone performed “I Put A Spell On You.”  The performances were uncomfortable as they were positioned before or after taped segments of children dying in Africa or poor people in America.  It was a bit awkward at times.  Especially when it was obvious that certain actors and singers were promoting their respective album or movie.

Several charities were represented throughout the two hours allotted. The show did go super long and for those of us whose DVR’s were only scheduled for 8-10 PM, missed out on one particular performance…Elton John.  However, in the first two hours, Queen Latifah, Jeff Beck, Joss Stone, Black Eyed Peas, Mary J. Blige, Sir Elton John and Alicia Keys joined Underwood along with host Ryan Seacrest, Ben Affleck, David Arquette, Jennifer Garner,  Season 7 winner David Cook, the judges and contestants, among others.  Also worth noting, Annie Lennox performed a taped performance because she is stuck in London due to flight cancellations resulting from the Icelandic volcano.  However, she did a touching performance along with emotional video footage of her trip to Africa.

But…Carrie’s performance was unbelievable…check it out below!!

Also…next week is country week on Idol, so set your DVR.  Shania Twain will be mentoring the remaining contestants on Tuesday and Rascal Flatts and Lady Antebellum will be performing on the results show, which is Wednesday.  Don’t miss it!!
