Concert Review: Lady Antebellum ‘Own The Night’

I’ve been pretty busy the last few weeks with finals and the start of college basketball season…but I did enjoy myself this past weekend at the Lady Antebellum show.  Friday night I caught Lady A up in Scranton at the Mohegan Sun Arena.  Eden’s Edge and Josh Kelley opened the show…and Lady A rocked!

The stage set up for their first headlining tour was creative…a pit for fans to get realllly close and a stage the stretched out into the center of the arena.  There were three large screens, to get close ups of each member (Dave, Charles & Hillary) of the trio.  Stairs led up each side of the stage to the rest of the band which was spread out along the top of the stage.  Lady A entered the stage through a hole in the stage and at a couple times during the show Dave’s piano appeared and disappeared depending on the song.

A lot of songs from the new album Own The Night were in the set list, plus a few old favorites.  “Own The Night” opened the show and “Dancing Away With My Heart,” “Just A Kiss,” “Cold As Stone” and “Friday Night.”  Plus, “Love Don’t Live Here,” “Lookin’ For A Good Time,” “I Run To You,” “Need You Now,” “American Honey” and “Hello World.”  I’m sure I’m missing some others in there, but they sure sang an array of old and new…plus threw in a cover of “Black Water” with Eden’s Edge and Josh Kelley.

I took some video and made a mash up of some of the songs…check it out below!

Kenny & Tim To Hit The Road Together In 2012

The CMA’s are in the past and with the show last week there were lots of rumors of a reuniting of Tim McGraw and Kenny Chesney out on the road together.  Well rumors have been put to rest…Kenny Chesney and Tim McGraw will reunite for the musical event of 2012, the ‘Brothers of the Sun’ Tour.

‘Brothers of the Sun’ will be the first time in 10 years that Kenny and Tim have hit the road together.  The reunion will kick off June 2 in Tampa, FL and will feature stadium shows on weekend dates at venues across the country, including Philadelphia’s Lincoln Financial Field, Dallas’ Cowboys Stadium, Detroit’s Ford Field, and New Jersey’s MetLife Stadium. ‘Brothers of the Sun’ will also feature special guests Grace Potter & The Nocturnals and Jake Owen.

Sounds pretty exciting, definitely something to look forward to next summer!

Eric Church’s ‘Chief’ is GOLD

Eric Church is riding high with the success of his latest album Chief…in fact, the album was just certified gold for shipments exceeding 500,000 units.

Capitol labelmate Keith Urban surprised Eric with a plaque marking the occasion during a recent stop in Milwaukee on Keith’s 2011 Get Closer World Tour.  They also performed one of Chief’s stand-out tracks, “Springsteen,” for the sold-out crowd.

This is such great news for a great artist.  I picked up his album in the first weeks after its debut and love it.  He’s one of my favorite artists right now…(the other being Miranda Lambert)…and if you’re not listening to him yet, you better go get this album today.

VIDEO OF THE DAY: Keith’s surprise duet

Over the weekend, Keith Urban wrapped up his Get Closer World Tour in Chicago.  I’m always a fan of unusual and unexpected duets and this tops my list.  Keith and Richard Marx might seem a tad unusual but the two have actually written songs together.  One in particular is “Better Life.”  Richard joined Keith on stage in Chicago to perform the tune together…take a look, very cool.

Taylor Brings Swag To Her Tour Stops In Atlanta

Taylor Swift stopped in Atlanta for two shows and continued using her star power to snag some super hot guest appearance.  She definitely kicked up the swag element of her show by inviting Usher and T.I. to the stage over the course of the two shows.

I really like that she’s incorporating music from each city she stops at.  She still has several more stops and she won’t be through until close to Thanksgiving.  Here are my suggestions of who she should bring on stage.  She hits Memphis on October 30…Justin Timberlake would be a cool duet partner.  She’ll be in Florida for three shows in early November…Gloria Estefan would be interesting for the Miami show, 1/5 of the Backstreet Boys Nick Carter could be cool at the Tampa show, perhaps a tune by native rapper Mase, a little “Welcome Back” in Jacksonville.  The tour wraps up in New York with two shows.  An obvious would be Mr. Jay-Z…that would really show her ability to get big names.  Lady Gaga is from New York…could she pull that off?  Even more wild…one of my faves Billy Joel!  Jennifer Lopez, Alicia Keys, Barbra Streisand, Neil Diamond…and the list goes on and on.

Anyone who has ever seen Taylor live knows she puts in a lot of hard work to make sure everyone has a memorable evening.  I’m sure that whoever she brings on stage or whichever songs she performs will be great.  She always manages to represent each city fabulously.

Happy Birthday, Faith

Today is Faith Hill’s 44th birthday.  We haven’t heard new music from Faith in quite a while, but you can catch her on Tony Bennett’s new album Duets II.  Faith is featured on the song “The Way You Look Tonight.”

Plus, if you’re in Australia next year you can catch Faith and Tim touring the great country.

And you can always catch Faith every Sunday night during football season when she sings the opening before the big game.

Keep up-to-date with even more Faith Hill news by following her on Facebook!

VIDEO OF THE DAY: Taylor Swift sings “Super Bass”

While everyone was watching the MTV VMA’s last night, Taylor Swift was wrapping up her four night stint at the Staples Center in Los Angeles.  For those of us who were watching knew Taylor wouldn’t be at the show but didn’t expect to see her in today’s entertainment news because of an unexpected surprise at her tour stop.  It turns out that Nicki Minaj left the VMA’s and booked it to the Staples Center to duet her hit “Super Bass.”  The two rocked it and you can check it out below.

Kenny Changes Date For Foxboro Show

It looks like a lot of being are having to deal with the bad weather associated with Hurricane Irene.

Kenny Chesney has rescheduled his Sunday night Foxboro concert for Friday, August 26 due to the impending storm.  All tickets for Sunday will be honored at the gate.  Fans who can’t attend Friday’s show will be offered a refund.

Here’s what Kenny had to say:

“I want the last weekend of the Goin’ Coastal tour to be a great experience for everybody.  But I also want it to be the safest experience for everyone.  I’ve always said Foxboro is a highlight of our tour, because the fans are ready for a great night of music and fun no matter what night it is!”

Start making changes to your plans if you are heading to that show!

VIDEO OF THE DAY: Taylor and Justin Bieber TOGETHER

It must be nice living in Los Angeles when a singer’s tour comes to town and you can spot all sorts of other celebrities in the audience.  Even cooler is when these celebs jump on stage to perform a duet.

That’s just what happened last night when Taylor Swift’s Speak Now tour visited the Staples Center.  If you think it’s loud at a normal Taylor show, imagine the sounds when Justin Bieber walks on stage at an already loud Taylor show…it’s complete pandamonium.

Zac Brown Band Introduces New Festival

The Zac Brown Band announced today that they will be hosting a three day food and music festival October 21-23 at Riley Park in Charleston, SC that will feature a new experience for a couple hundred VIPs.

“This is a big statement for us,” Zac Brown said. “This is a sign of the future, of how we’re going to be approaching our fans and our shows and our Southern Ground festivals.”

Zac said the stage will extend to the right and to the left of general admission, and stage boxes will be set up on each side.  Fans in these areas will be served food prepared by chefs throughout the day. Brown’s also taking over all the concessions in the park.  “This is real wine and real food,” Zac said. “It’s not just what’s cheap. It’s not a $12 bag of nachos with some Cheez Whiz on them.”

Jack Daniel’s will also be involved under a new partnership with the band.  It’s the first formal sponsorship deal with a music act in more than a decade for the whiskey maker.  “What we liked about the Zac Brown Band in particular was they are someone who could play the Ryman one night and Bonnaroo or Coachella the next night,” said Jeff Arnett, Jack Daniel’s master distiller.

A lineup and more details about the festival will be released at a later date.
